I'm in the middle of my first actual Graduate level Computer Science course. it's on Algorithm analysis. This week, procrastination almost got the better of me.
I got notice this Monday that I was four weeks into the class and hadn't turned in my first assignment. If I didn't have it in by Friday, I would be dropped from the class. This is actually supposed to be a good thing because it means people are less likely to flunk out at the end of the term and the students who dropped can simply re register, picking up where they left off. However, I am on the Montgomery GI bill and would have to refund the Government about a thousand dollars that I can't afford to refund as well as miss out on the next month's money if I were dropped. In addition, since I'm taking a Graduate level class, I need at LEAST a B - and preferably an A to get the full tuition benefit my work offers.
Compounding the problem is the fact that the assignment covers four chapters, some extra reading assignments and a few hundred lines of code I would have to generate - and I hadn't started yet.
Enter the Caffeine Nap.
I've mentioned before that I am coming to the conclusion that Sleep is nature's way of punishing you for letting your blood caffeine levels drop too far. This little trick dropped my normal 5 hours of sleep to a paltry two per night for the last three nights, which gave me just enough extra time in the day to finish my assignment!
Normally, I would be able to use the weekend to recover, but this is drill weekend, so I have another week before I will see a real break.
Luckily, my work has coffee.
